What is a patient monitor?
A patient monitor is a device that displays the main functional indicators of the body, similar in appearance to a TV display or computer display. The number of body function indicators to be monitored is determined by doctors and nurses.
The monitor is attached to a wire called a lead. At the other end, the lead is connected to a sensing device that senses the patient's body. The sensing device transmits electrical signals to the monitor, which can monitor and display readings of specific body function indicators.

When should a patient monitor be used?
Monitors are primarily used when doctors need to measure heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. In addition, special features of the monitor are used in some cases, such as capnography, oximetry, EEG, and pulmonary artery catheter readings. The patient monitor has an alarm system to alert the nurse that the patient's body functions require attention.
Will using a patient monitor cause harm to the body?
There is no harm to the body when using the patient monitor.
How do we use a patient monitor?
All ICU patients are required to have a set of patient monitors. A patient monitor is usually required for the entire time a patient is in the ICU.
